Carl Schaller Conservation Leadership Fund:
Carl Schaller Conservation Leadership Fund: to provide general support to the Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust
The fund has been set up to accept contributions from community members who share a passion and love for the conservation of farms and forests for current and future generations. The fund was created to provide an endowment for ACT to ensure that we have the capacity and resources to undertake conservation projects while applying for grant funding for these projects.
Carl Schaller had a long career in environmental advocacy spanning the range from the very local to the international. He founded the Littleton Conservation Commission and was a supporter and volunteer for groups including NH Audubon, the Society for the Protection of NH Forests, the White Mountain School, ACT, Littleton High School, and more. He helped establish the Wild River wilderness area and expand the Sandwich Range Wilderness. He was very active in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge issues and advocated for the G’wichin Indians, whose traditional way of life was threatened by oil drilling.
ACT honored Schaller in 2011 by naming a hiking trail after him. The Schaller Trail, which Carl had helped build some years earlier, is located on ACT’s Foss Forest on Pearl Lake Road in Sugar Hill.
Tax-deductible donations must be made directly online or by check to the Carl Schaller Conservation Leadership Fund, c/o N.H. Charitable Foundation, 37 Please Street, Concord, NH 03301.
