Speaker: Meica Danielle Magnani, Assistant Teaching Professor at Northeastern University
Bio:
Associate Teaching Professor of Philosophy, Northeastern University. Meica teaches and conducts research in moral philosophy, history of philosophy, environmental ethics, and ethics of computing technology. She is passionate about inciting curiosity in her students and providing them with tools and opportunities for deepening their own self-reflection and understanding of the world around them. She was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and now lives in the White Mountains.
Description:
Meica will be talking about her experience running an environmental ethics course on old growth forest conservation out on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and in Olympic National Park. This was a 30 day experiential education experience. During the course, students and faculty talked to the various stakeholders surrounding the few remaining old growth forests and groves -- including big tree seekers, representatives of Ancient Forest Alliance, members of the different Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations, loggers, forest ecologists, park rangers, and local guides. She hopes her talk will provide further context and current perspectives from this area to compliment War for the Woods.
