PSU Presentation - Threats to Water Resources in the Franconia, Easton, and Sugar Hill (FESH) Valley
The Environmental Science and Policy seminar group at Plymouth State University, led by Dr. Amy Villamagna, has been entrusted by the Franconia, Easton, and Sugar Hill Conservation Commissions to develop a vital community outreach tool addressing the escalating threats to water resources in the Franconia-Easton-Sugar Hill (FESH) headwater community.
With rapid urbanization, construction, and population growth alongside the looming specter of climate change-induced floods and droughts, the region's delicate hydrological balance is at risk.
The seminar group's tool aims to provide accessible information by illuminating the diverse hazards facing local water sources, including population growth, pollution, damage to waterway integrity, species assessment, river crossings, flooding impacts, and exposure to pollutants.
This initiative empowers the FESH community to recognize, understand, and mitigate the impacts of these threats on the area's hydrology and foster greater environmental stewardship.
Seniors Brandan Bennett, Jacob Gallaher, and Jessica Nitzschke will present their research results in a story map format to interested members of the FESH Valley and surrounding communities on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 6:00 pm at the Franconia Town Hall.
We hope to see you there.
