Try Some Plant-Based Eating

Fight climate change with diet change

Does #socialdistancing have you bored at home? Bust out some new recipes!

You and your family can both eat delicious food and reduce your carbon footprint by trying to adopt a more plant-based diet.

Find new recipes or recreate family favorites with plant-based ingredients. Whatever you do, start small. Don't try to make a switch all at once. Do what feels attainable. Choose to swap one meal a week, or one meal a day, and go from there. Spring and summer are great times to make a shift while fruits and veggies are at their best.

Looking to go beyond new recipes?

What's Old is New Again:

Think food preservation. Learn (or re-learn) how to can, pickle, dry and freeze food to enjoy fruits and veggies year-round and to minimize food waste.

Grow Your Own:

Tis’ the season to get planning for your plantings, get seeds started, consider till or no till, and read up on pest control. Never had a garden before but interested? Check out UNH Extension for a great local resource!

Don’t want to grow a full on garden? There’s other ways to grow indoors beyond container plants.

  1. You can sprout beans and grains right at home in just a few days! Besides being delicious, sprouting beans at home is a fun and fast project to do with your kids.

  2. Did you know you can put some veggies into water on your window sill and they’ll continue to grow or re-grow? The list is surprisingly long and includes scallions, fennel, celery, and romaine lettuce among others.
