May Kids Corner - Nature Alphabet Activity
from the Gale River Cooperative Preschool

SO Many ways to explore and learn from nature!

There are lots of benefits to getting children outside to explore in nature. From fully developing their eyesight and strengthening their balance to learning self-regulation and connecting with nature, children will grow in many positive ways with time outside. As the days get longer and warmer, there are more and more plants popping up and growing. Trees seem to take new form and the ferns uncoil so quickly!

Try a new walk as a family and let your child take the lead. See what they notice, follow their pace (even if it feels really slow!), and ask them questions about what they notice.

Nature alphabet? Try this at home!

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Head out on a nature adventure with your family in search of a natural alphabet. If your child is older, try to find the whole alphabet and even take pictures as you go to show to friends later. Try to see if you can find letters already existing in nature, or if you need to make them (with sticks, for example), that works too! If your child is younger, maybe just find the letters that spell their name. This is a fun way to weave literacy into an exploration of the natural world around you!

Thanks to our partner, the Gale River Cooperative Preschool in Bethlehem, for helping our area parents get kiddos outside for fun no matter the time of year.

We can't wait to share the family fun we're planning with you. Keep an eye out in the coming months for announcements.
