Growing Food!

With all this daylight and warm weather, one great way to spend time outside as a family is gardening. Whether you have a huge garden plot or only one little pot outside, kids will learn so much from helping grow something (especially if they can later eat it)!

Starting a Garden in Summer
July is a great month to plant something that will be ready to eat in the fall. Beets, carrots, kohlrabi, and spinach are all plants that you can direct seed in the ground (meaning you can just put the seed into the ground) and with the long days and warm weather, these plants should grow well. Let your little ones be a part of the whole process! They will learn through their senses, and from your modeling as well.

How wonderful to eat something that you know exactly where it comes from!

Thanks to our partner, the Gale River Cooperative Preschool in Bethlehem, for helping our area parents get kiddos outside for fun no matter the time of year.
